I write about the importance of developing critical thinking skills and compassion. If we don’t learn how to effectively analyze information, we are easy prey for the propagandists. Yet compassion must always be present, as the message of the heart cannot take a backseat to the knowledge of the mind, if one’s goal is a more just world.
Writing helps to corral my swirling thoughts into a cohesive idea for a story to share with others. Hopefully, a discussion will ensue that will allow me to hear others express their thoughts on the idea.
My own thinking has been greatly influenced by the words of Noam Chomsky, Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay), and Dr. Gabor Maté. Professor Chomsky’s insight into the manufacturing of consent, Thay’s teachings of deep compassion for ourselves and others, and Dr. Maté’s insights into the role of trauma in our societies, have provided a path for my personal evolution.
I am grateful for the vast contribution to my education that those authors provided through the written word.
I continue to learn from the independent voices that publish on Substack, and hope that my words might provide some inspiration for others.
I would be remiss if I didn’t also acknowledge my greatest teachers in life — my dogs—for their constant example of how to love unconditionally.
Welcome to my Substack.
